About

Global Story House explores storytelling across languages and borders: how form, translation, oral traditions and retellings shape what stories mean to different readers. It is for curious readers who want to look beyond plot summaries and ask how a story is made, carried and received.

What we cover

We examine the choices that shape storytelling: who tells, in what form, through which language, and for which audience. Our subjects include oral storytelling, translation, adaptations and the reading of works from unfamiliar contexts. We focus on the story-making questions readers can explore without needing specialist credentials.

How we approach it

We compare possibilities rather than announce a single correct interpretation. A translation can preserve one feature while reshaping another; a retelling can carry a familiar plot toward a different concern. We make those trade-offs visible, distinguish observation from interpretation and avoid treating any one version as the whole story.

Who it is for

This publication is for readers who enjoy asking why a story feels different in another form or language, and what might be lost when context disappears. You do not need to know a particular literary tradition in advance. We explain terms when they matter and leave room for uncertainty where a simple answer would mislead.
